Carrier insurance typically covers the declared value of your shipment, up to a certain limit. Coverage will vary by carrier and is subject to terms and conditions. Key steps include:

1. Declaring value of your shipment during booking

2. Ensuring proper packaging to avoid claim denials (due to insufficient protection)

3. Filing a claim promptly if issues arise

Some Carrier-Specific Policies:

• FedEx: Automatically includes up to CAD $100 of coverage. Additional declared value coverage can be purchased. Claims must be filed within 21 calendar days of delivery.

• UPS: Offers up to CAD $100 liability per package. Additional insurance (called Declared Value) is available for purchase. Claims should be filed within 60 days.

• Canada Post: Most services include up to CAD $100 liability. Extra coverage can be purchased. Claims must be submitted within 90 days of the mailing date.

• Purolator: Base coverage of up to CAD $100 included. Declared Value coverage available for higher-value shipments. Claims need to be filed within 60 days

For high-value or frequent shipments, third-party insurance can offer better rates and broader coverage. Look at third-party companies who specialize in additional shipping insurance.
